Everybody´s heard of Det Blev Handgemäng. Take a trip to the woods between the tiny Swedish towns of Osby and Älmhult, and you can be sure they´ve played there. Climb to the top of the mountain at Kinnekulle and find that skruffy old barn with a dance floor, where Det Blev Handgemäng entertained the crowd the whole night through. Flag down a car between Falun and Gävle and you´ll hear a local tall tale of one of their legendary concerts, or sneak through the tolls of the capital city and catch the chatter about their lastest gig. Det Blev Handgemäng is one of Sweden´s most diligent and in demand Americana bands, and they´ve travelled for miles in their old 1987 Volvo 740, playing their way through dive-bars, old-timey dance halls, cabins and castles. And when the old Volvo finally gives up, well, the band will still keep touring, hitting the road on horseback if need be.

It´s been eight years since the raging success of their debut album Bugalú in 2015, and Det Blev Handgemäng are now releasing their long-awaited follow-up album Kalla Högervindar. The band has eight years more experience, is eight years wiser and eight years groovier, and the band members have new nicknames to boot. Their music is deeply rooted in the American Folk tradition, and is descibed in reviews as “authentic in abundance”. All tracks are original compositions, with the exception of the tune Coo Coo Bird. Clarence Ashley´s hit from 1929 was a given for the band to record: it´s been a crowd-pleaser since they started playing together in 2009, but has been slightly re-arranged for the album, with a new fresh groove.

All jokes aside, Det Blev Handdegäng are no jokesters. They are deeply committed to their music, which is apparent from the get-go. “Dumsnäll” Svensson and “Dumsnäll” Jansson egg the groove on, whilst “Bulls-Eye” Engberg steadies the music with her thumping bass, and “The Lick” Johansson floats on top with classic flair. Jansson, Johansson and Engberg have sung together on hundreds of stages, the tight and elegant frasing of their three-part harmonies a testiment to that very fact.

Det Blev Handgemängs will hit the road again in the spring of 2024, on a release tour for “Kalla Högervinder”. Listen to their music and catch a show!
